If you have complaints, opinions, ideas, suggestions etc post them here. I may split this up into different threads if it gets weird lookin.

i have a suggestion/complaint/idea whats the server ip?

there are 2 current bugs we're working out:

a bug with people who don't own minecraft but have the free version

a bug with permissions

other then that all the basic work in setting it up is done (we spent the entire night doing it)
but im sleepy so im goin to bed, so hah.

expect the server to be up either early this afternoon or early tonight (getting my parents from the airport then so probably not inbetween those two times)

we'll also need 1 volunteer who owns minecraft (cuz of bug #1) to help test a few things out before we release. first person who wants it, gets it.

I bought minecraft so i guess i will help, ill try to check in on the chat a couple times today.

am i allowed to invite a friend or two to hop on the server?

sure but make sure they read the rules. some of the 1s like don't build explicit shit could get collin in trouble if they were broken.

server isnt letting me on :d im guessing its because it hasnt been updated to 1.5?

whenever minecraft updates, we need the server client we use to update as well

we can't run the server for the current ver of minecraft till then
historically thats taken anywhere from 2 days to a week+.

we're thinking about keeping the server running 1.4 till everything looks updated.

Minecraft has a modding section on the official forums but obfuscates the classes that need to be altered for modding
Makes no sense

For those that upgraded you can go to AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\bin
Find minecraft.jar and rename it to something like mincraft_1.5.jar (or just delete it, it doesnt matter, unless you already installed mods into it)
And in that folder there might be another file called minecraft-1.4_01.jar
Rename that to minecraft.jar
Then use the launcher to launch it, it might ask you to upgrade, say no

Im not sure if everyone will have a minecraft-1.4_01.jar
Mine might be a backup from a texture patcher, or a mod

on a sidenote, using the word "obfuscates" on purpose puts you on the list of people I have a grand total of 0 respect for.

yep we updated a lil while back as well
i was gonna test all the mods before saying something

but since I'm pretty much done going through the list I'll just say server is updated and wait for someone to figure out a huge glitch

Is the server ip the same as the one from before i can't get on? nevermind, but im probably not going to play on this map often because it takes so long to load.. when i type something in chat it takes at least 30 sec to show up, but i would suggest using the other stargate mod which would only require one stargate at the spawn and it would connect to all other stargates using the /dial cmd. This makes all the stargates interconnected so you don't have to keep going back to that portal room to switch areas.

A lot of people have been having this problem. As far as stargate, it's not the issue. The lag is super intermittent and will usually go away if I reconnect a few dozen thousand times. I found a possible fix that I'm gonna be putting on the server tonight. The server has been running on OpenJDK which is shipped with Cent, i'm gonna be installing the actual Sun JRE tonight and see if it takes care of it.
Short answer:
some programs need to be updated/replaced. should help.

I'll post an update after some testing later.

okay and the stargates was just a suggestion i thought the one i was talking about might be easier

I have narrowed down the lag issues with the server somewhat. It is a networking problem that only affects people outside the campus network. I will be working on this tomorrow with the university's sysadmin.

Hopefully it'll be taken care of soon
