| This thread has spoilers for ways to defeat the heroic bosses, so dont read it if you want to do that without helpSo as i mentioned in the main post about nax i went through many decks trying to make something that actually worked against maexxna The first 2 i just used normal decks for, any equality combo works for the first one, and shaman worked great for the 2nd But for maexxna nothing was working, at first i used my normal shaman deck, since that worked fine against normal maex, but soon found that i couldnt get board control, even with back to back feral spirits and totems (1 cost totems since they were returned earlier) Then i tried my normal pally deck since that has a lot of heal battlecry stuff but was never able to get any damage in I tried my other decks to but none worked (none of them are aggro though, i dont have my zookeeper cho deck saved in hearthstone anymore and i didnt feel like remaking it just to try it) So once i confirmed that normal board control wouldnt work i went with my first idea of spell mage (i wouldve tried miracle rogue if i had prep and leeroy) This is the first deck i made specifically for that match Spell MageBut i couldnt deal with spectral knight or sea giant, so i replaced cone of cold with poly, still couldnt deal with spectral knight, and had a harder time dealing with all the little guys, and after a couple attempts with that slayer mentioned voodoo doctor making it easy, so i replaced 1 far seer with voodoo and ended up drawing both 1 game so i could heal for 5 every turn but it still wasnt enough (i went back and added voodoo to my pally and shaman decks too see how it did and had the same damage problem I also realized that miracle probably wouldnt work since he has 45hp and the auctioneer would be returned So after many failures i abandoned that deck and made this Weapon WarriorThis one did pretty well and i think i couldve won if i got the right draws but it wasnt really fun to play After many failed attempts i decided silence/stealing was probably the way to go rather then trying to clear with damage, so i made this deck Silent PriestI left the damage in there too just cause i had extra space in the deck, i also cut voodoo doctor cause after a few games with voodoo instead of archer i was finding that i needed the 1 dmg from archer more, and after 7 or so tries with this deck i finally did it, i got pretty lucky though, i had both deaths for both giants, both mass dispells and holy novas to clear the board, alex to set his health down, and both holy fires for his face after alex I cant belive how much value mass dispell got, it was great You guys should post the decks you made to beat the bosses, im interested in seeing other peoples styles/ideas Slayer said he had a deck that made it easy but i find that hard to beleive | |

| Plague Quarter (2nd wing): - Spoiler:
I found this to be easy compared to the first wing This is the deck i used (with a few card changes depending on what the boss does, which ill talk a bit about below) to beat all 3 heroic bosses from the plague quarter http://www.hearthhead.com/deckbuilder#cMx7McK7MmK7MoN7MaA7Mag7Mdx7Mrf7MrF7Mfo7MAm7zAo7zAR7MAa7Mj57Mtg8VThe holy smite can be swapped out for circle of healing if the boss doesnt have many 2 hp minions The shieldbearer is important, you can put an inner fire on it for an early 4/4 but more importantly the AI will always hit it even if you have northshire cleric out, so you can just keep healing it for card draw and to prevent dmg to you, as long as you keep the dmg low enough for it to live, its great to have in those fights that start them with minions on the board (shadowword pain is better), but you can replace it with almost any other minion if you find it being useless (it is useless later in the game) The sunfury wants to hit lightwell and gargoyle, you can swap it out for defender of argus, but the taunt is all i really care about Shadow word death and holy fire can be swapped out for either double death, double holy fire, mass dispell, or alexstraza (though alex didnt work on loatheb lol) depending on what the boss is doing Stormwind knight is like mini reverse auchenai soulpriest against the AI's decks, you deal 2 dmg with it then heal it back up, you can swap it out for auchenai (especially if i put circle of healing in) but its really bad when you have gargoyle/lightwell out, i even tried snapjaw for a bit in this spot just to see if the 7 hp thing was good (it was only good once and i ended up using auchenai too) Shadow madness can be swapped out if you find it to be a dead card, i would swap it out for any of the cards i mentioned above The rest of the cards are core to the deck, this deck works because every boss deck has been super aggro and the AI ignores minions that it shouldnt The goal is to get an 8/8 gargoyle and a 10/10 lighwell out with taunt, a 16/16 gargoyle and a lightwell is fine too, if you do that you cant lose, the rest of the deck is just getting you to that point For noth you can play lightwells, he wont/cant kill them, other than that hold off on playing any minions until you get a good gargoyle/lightwell combo, a 10/10 lightwell or 8/8 gargoyle ends up being enough to win since his cards suck, he doesnt seem to cast plague when you only have 1 minion out (i may have just been lucky though), i ended up winning with a stormwind knight/power word shield/divine spirit/innerfire combo while i did 10dmg per turn with a lightwell before that, i also had 2 shadow word deaths, and shadow madness was a dead card so i replaced that with 2 holy fires Heigan is very easy, gargoyle completely negates his hero power, without that hes just a worse version of zoo, i used snapjaw (instead of sunfury, i know it was wierd but sunfury wasnt working for me and more hp was nice to have against hero power), achenai, circle and 2 deaths Loatheb took a couple tries, mainly because i would just lose without pain in my starting hand, but once i got pain early it was easy, i had 2 holy fires here, the spores made gargoyle/shieldbearers/lightwells/sunfury insane, i didnt need the big gargoyle/lightwell combo, though i did need the lightwell to stop me from dieing (i would only play 1 at a time so that i would always have 1 up even after seeds) This deck also works for the first wings bosses except maexna where you need battlecry minions
Military Quarter (3rd wing): - Spoiler:
My god they really made this much harder, i tried my gimmick priest deck here too because it worked against most of the other nax bosses so why not, it didnt work at all The bosses here had such cheap tactics that i had to resort to cheap tactics too Razuvious gave me trouble even in normal mode lol, so when i got to heroic i knew it was going to be hard, i already knew my gimmick priest wouldnt work because it didnt work in normal (i even put ooze and harrison in to try to help, it didnt), in normal i used my shaman (my older shaman) and won, but it just wasnt working here so after making like 10 different types of decks and failing 10+ times i made the most unfair (to this boss) deck i could think of, and it ended up being really dumb but it worked http://www.hearthhead.com/deckbuilder#czg7MMD7MmM7Mmc7MRe7zsX7Mab7MaP7MqY7MbY7Mb67MrC7Mid7MuG7MxG7MxA8kStall until alex with taunts, drop his hp to 15 once you get alex, finish him next turn with 2x lavaburst and 2x lightning bolt Its like freeze mage, but instead of freezing (since freezing the hero to stop his OP weapon is a pain) you just throw taunts in the way Ooze and harrison doesnt help enough, better to just have more taunts I tried the same thing against Gothik but it doesnt work, the spirits and his minions are too good, so again i went through 10 different decks until i made a ghetto freeze mage (since i dont have pyro/archmage or iceblock) Freeze mage is the way to go here, you just need 1 extra thing in your freeze mage to make it work http://www.hearthhead.com/deckbuilder#czMG7MM27MmU7MVG7Mki7MkO7MsL7zsX7Ms47Mat7Mqd7zbH7MwW7Miz7MhN7zAO7Mnk8RAgain just stall with freeze until you get alex, try not to kill anything until you get raid leader, then kill everything and drop raid leader the next turn to use all the spirits, i used them to deal damage to him to give me that exrta bit of dmg for lethal (i only had double fireball after alex so the damage from the spirits with raid leader gave me lethal, you can also use radi leader to kill off the spirits by attacking into w/e he plays, this would be much easier with ice block, though i dont know what i would get rid of for it, probably novice For the four horsemen i went back to that taunt shaman deck, but added a doomsayer to it instead of alex, the plan was to do the same thing but use doomsayer to make him vulnerable to the kill combo since he already has 14 hp, but doomsayer is banned in that fight lol so i tried gimick priest with mass dispell and 2 mindblasts/2 smites trying to silence then kill him with that combo, which almost worked, but i got the perfect hand and still lost so, i ended up just using my normal handlock with the plan of getting 2 molten giants with taunt out as soon as he dropped me to 10 or less and just hope that he didnt have shadow word death, which actually happened on the 2nd try with handlock, but i realized that it would take me too long to kill the horsemen and deal 14 dmg to him since he had corruption and freeze, luckily for me the AI is stupid, he traded all 3 horsemen into 1 of my moltens first and then used his weapon to finish it off putting himself at 6, then he used corruption and freeze on my other giant which i just silenced with an owl and used to kill him, it was the shortest and easiest heroic match ive had lasting only like a min and 5 turns lol, i got extremely lucky to get both giants a taunt giver an owl and for him to not have shadow word death or some other removal This is my normal handlock btw: http://www.hearthhead.com/deckbuilder#czMy7Mm27zk17zs07Maf7MbY7Mb37zrG7Mfo7Mwo7Mwx7MwW7Miv7Mhx7MhC7MAf7Mj68sI plan to try these heroics again without alex/lucky draws, but i feel like alex is required for the first 2 and luck is required for the last one

Remember how i said they made this much harder in the military quarter, well that was a cake walk compared to this wing, wow, most of them can kill you in 3-4 turns without even doing anything other than using the stuff they start with, its ridiculous I tried a lot of different decks for these, my gimick priest, taunt shaman, even aggro decks like face hunter and murlock, but i found freeze mage to be the only one that actually managed to come close (with the exception of thaddius which ill get to later) so i ended up crafting ice block because so many times i would be 1 turn away from winning where if i had ice block up i would live for that turn and have the win and i didnt see any other way to do it GrobbulusGrob was the easiest for me and the one i did first because i skipped enragers because of his hero power and it worked really well, once i had ice block i was able to do it the first time with ice block in the deck (and that was the reason i crafted it, every single time id be 1 turn away from winning only to lose because i didnt have immunity) PatchwerkOnce i had iceblock and the freeze mage plan i went back and tried pathwerk again, obviously normal freeze mage wouldnt work since he had no minions so i combined the taunt shaman idea i had from the fight with razuvious with freeze mage to make this: taunt to water ele but he just hero powered to kill them so goldshire footman ended up being the answer Sorc apprentice and knife juggler will live almost the entire game and will make it so you can cast stuff faster and deal a bunch of dmg I put the coldlight oracles in there because he has no cards and doesnt draw so i thought it would just act as a draw 2 cards for me, but its way better than that because it forces him to draw which gives him fatigue damage When i saw that i threw the dancing swords in there to deal 21 dmg to him in just fatigue from those cards, it worked really well, it still took a couple tries because i needed to draw low cost taunts early but once i did it worked great I put mad scientist in just so i could play a ice block or barrier faster Fireball was too slow and didnt do anything to stop me from taking damage so i cut it GluthGluth is just frustrating, you need an exact draw to win Heres the deck: cone of cold, blizzard on turn 6, flame turn 7, ice block and nova turn 8, alex turn 9, draw into fireball/other burn spells to finish As long as my card drawing cards drew my freeze and as long as i started with ooze in hand, i could survive to turn 6 and as long as i had blizz/flame/alex/ice block right after that i was able to finish the game, any other draw order and i would just loose so even with this deck, which seems like the only way to win, it took me many tries to get the perfect draws Vaporize is used after the initial rush, once he starts spamming spectral knights (it needs to hit a spectral knight in the late game to buy the time you need to draw spells to finish him if you dont have them already) if you start with vaporize in opening hand just restart because you cant win, your opening hand needs ooze/freeze and either more freeze/another ooze or card draw ThaddiusI thought taddius would be easy, in normal mode it gave me no trouble at all, i played handlock for it though so my 8/8s didnt care about the swapping, my twilight drakes did massive damage and his cards werent much of a threat so i won easily But in hardcore wow, 11 damage per turn wtf I tried freeze mage at first but it just wasnt working, his damage output was just too high and the constant health changes caused my board clears to not work all the time So i decided equality was probably the only need to be as exact as the fight with gluth, i needed turn 1 noble sacrifice, turn 4 pyro/equality if i had that i was in a great position, i could stall long enough to get a 2nd equality combo and once i did the 2nd one he would just be top decking and it was easy from there Divine shield makes the hp swapping thing easier to deal with since your guys will live no matter what attack they end up with, thats the only reason silvermoon is in there, after i saw how well tirion did in 1 of the runs i took out acolyte of pain and put in scarlet but the swapping was annoying with scarlet so silvermoon ended up working

These werent hard, just frustrating SapphironThis was the most frustrating and annoying match, it was so bad i ended up skipping it But when i went back to it, after awhile of failing, i realized we would get down to the last few cards and he would be 10 or so hp away from death So i came up with the idea of using fatigue to help finish him off and created this deck http://www.hearthhead.com/deckbuilder#cMM27zcf7zmX7Mm17MVG7Mki7Mkg7MkO7Mk17Mse7Ms47Mat7Mqd7Miz7Mid7Mxt8RWhich i thought was a brilliant idea At first i was just playing out the coldlights and duplicating them and playing the clones asap and it was just suicidal so i this thought fun idea ended up being bad, but i gave it 1 more shot but that time i played 1 coldlight and duplicate then saved the 3 coldlights to help at the very end where he was guaranteed to take fatigue damage, and the other duplicate would get me another rocketeer, once i started doing that, instead of going all in on coldlights like a suicidal maniac, it became fairly easy and was really fun The hardest part was calculating the dmg from my spells/charge plus the dmg from all the fatigue so that i wouldnt kill myself with fatigue at the same time that he died I needed frostbolt and or wolfrider in opening hand, and i needed to draw into frost/blizzard/cone and delay until his board was completely full so that flamestrike would kill everything at once, also i needed to take a bit of dmg from necroknight so that i could use him to kill 2 things at the same time cause a lot of the time he plays spectral knight next to necro and if that happens it makes everything to much easier, so leaving necro alive and taking the 5 dmg for 1 turn was better so that i could potentially kill a spectral for free This is actually a failed attempt, all i had to do was hero power his face or fireball his face, hell i couldve just hit end turn and he wouldve died, but i played coldlight like an idiot and killed us both and didnt get credit for it lol, for some reason i thought it was like naturalize where he draws first and that he would be dead so i wouldnt drawKel'ThuzadThis is the most random BS ive ever seen, its basically a flip of the coin whether you win or lose, no, its more like flipping 20 coins and needing 12 or more of them to be heads otherwise you lose I think pretty much any deck could beat this by sheer random luck This is the deck i tried at first, which didnt work, but i really like it and it came really close multiple times and made the fight more fun so i may as well share it, it might work if youre super lucky http://www.hearthhead.com/deckbuilder#cMmz7Mmf7MmK7zkk7MaA7Mqs7Mdq7MAV7zAR7Mj57MyJ7Mxw7MxG7MxA7MxB7MgN8VIf i had undertaker in my hand i would do insanely well until the end where he would just MC everything i played and id be top decking and hed MC it and i just couldnt finish him while he was at 10-15hp So i realized shaman or pally was required so that he would potentially steal 1/1s or totems instead of w/e i played So i made a pretty standard control pally deck with a few crappy minions to act as a way to reduce the chances that he MCed something important: http://www.hearthhead.com/deckbuilder#cMMr7Mm37MRm7MbU7MbW7MbY7Md67MrI7zrn7zfV7Miq7Miu7Mho7MuQ7Mj67MxA8MAnd thats the deck that ended up winning, basically as long as he MCs the 1/1s or 1 of the crappy minions like argent squire/protector/doctor you will win, and if he MCs a fresh kings/sunwalker/tirion just concede and try again (id have 6 minions out, he MCs tirion 3 out of 5 times, i call hacks) I needed to be much more aggressive than i normally would be with a deck like that, i would play aldor on zombie chow on turn 3 just to have a 3/3 to hit his armor off with, i would also play protector and give shield to 1 of my 1/1s just to have the dmg in the early game, basically i had to knock the armor off by turn 7 or i was screwed Truesilver and ashbringer need to hit his face, and i needed the damage from every swing There were so many games where i needed his MC to hit my 1/1 (50% chance) and every time it hit the minion i needed for lethal, it actually happened every time, when i had something like a drake and a 1/1 and he was at 4hp, he would MC and get the drake and i would lose, i have to assume that its not actually random when you have a minion that gives you lethal like that, it must always steal the minion that can deal lethal damage to him when hes in lethal range This is the battle with Sapphiron that i actually won after that failure in the other pic, 20mins later lol You can see in the background that my hand and the history is different I cant believe i actually screwed that up the first time
Overall heroic was fun, frustrating at times but i really enjoyed having to come up with stuff i would normally never think of and use a few cards that i rarely use You guys should share your deck/strategies for heroic when you get to it, id be interested to see if you guys approached it in the same way that i did or if you had some other crazy idea | |

| the only heroic i did after the first wing was the big guy cuz i figured he'd be really easy as rogue, betrayal + sap in opening hand mmm.gif then i drew the one that died right after i woulda taken the extra 3 face dmg for how satisfying it would be overall it was a fun match, but if i hadn't gotten either a betrayal or a sap by turn 2 i think it would be a auto restart i like the pally strat too though i was going to put that in spoiler tags, but i dont think thats necessary ive been waiting to do the other wings until i have alex. not that you need alex, just that many of them will be a lot less frustrating having her. that and theyre only fun rng willing and for some reason, every time i quit hearthstone it crashes windows. which is a major pain since it doesnt even have the decency to properly mute when minimized in windowed mode | |

| I think any deck needs a certain starting hand to win against him Betrayal was a good idea, i didnt even consider rogue for it
I needed alex for 5 of them, 3 of those feel impossible without alex, the other 2 dont really need her, she just makes it easier If you have pyroblast you can get away without using alex in those 3, having both would probably make it very easy, if i had pyro it would be in those freeze mage decks, probably replacing vaporize I think blizzard and equality are more important than alex, i needed blizzard/equality in most of them | |
