Plot Summary!? The science fantasy story Tokyo ESP begins with Rinka, an extremely poor high school girl who lives with just her father in modern Tokyo. One day, she is going home from school when she chases a "flying penguin" to the top of New Tokyo Tower—only to have "fish swimming in the air" suddenly appear before her. One of the fish goes through Rinka and gives her extraordinary powers beyond those of normal humans, particularly the ability to slip through solid objects. Thoughts... So um, yeah, i dont even know where to begin Normally these posts are easy, watch an ep or 2 of a show (if its still airing) find the OP and a plot description, do the usual post formatting, paste in the info and insert my opinions/first impressions at the bottom without spoiling anything
But this... i mean... wtf am i supposed to do now So im just going to say that im... intrigued
Ep 1:
Spoiler:
Holy fucking shit this is not what i expected at all from that description lol I wanted to write "Its like x-men... on coke" in the non-spoiler part, but the expectation thing is part of the experience so i feel like it spoils it if you know ahead of time, i didnt even want to post the OP/ED since its obvious theres something off about the description with an OP like that but i figured i had to otherwise people might ignore it based on the description alone And after i decided i couldnt write about that part i realized there was nothing i could say
But anyway, it seems like it could be great, im assuming the first epsiode was something like how at the start of a game you have all the powers unlocked as like a preview of whats to come, but then after the tutorial level you lose them all Im hoping the next episode starts at the beginning and explains this world and that this ep was just a preview of whats to come, im assuming it will since the description cant be a complete lie and doing it that way makes it match up to the description

The actual OP is here:
Normally anime puts the OP at the end of the first ep, or doesnt have an op/ed at all in the first ep (or rarely just has the OP/ED like normal), but this did it in a way that i shouldve realized earlier but only just realized today
Spoiler:
The ED to the first ep is done in the style of what would normally be done for the ED of the last ep, where they roll the credits over the ED song, which makes perfect sense since that ep is like a preview of the end to get you interested like how i was saying But i didnt realize how committed they were to the last ep as first ep thing
Episode 2
Spoiler:
They are all so accepting of all this, too accepting, after she finds out she can pass through stuff she still goes to work as if everything is perfectly normal, i feel like anyone would call in sick to find out more about wtf is happening to them and try to find out more about what those fish are, and she doesnt even explain anything to her dad at all
And near the end when they turned over the real thief to the cops they didnt tell them that she could turn invisible, or give them any proof that shes the real thief (cause there is no proof), so the cops wouldnt even be able to do anything to her, and even if they could she would only need to turn invisible while they look away for a second to make them think she escaped, since they have no idea that she can turn invisible, so they really didnt accomplish anything by turning her over to the police

I finished watching this a few days ago, made a post about it, but the forum host had some issues on the weeked so it got erased, so im going to re-type some of it
The action was good but the story was really lacking, i like the backstory that the villain had but other than that it was meh It contradicted itself at the end too
Spoiler:
They said "only esper can beat other espers" at the end to show they would fight like heroes, but rinka beat a couple espers during the time she lost her powers, as a normal human with just her training In fact the only time she lost was when she did have her powers, in the final battle youd think she would phase out of the ice and win, but no, azuma had to save here as she was about to pass out So the whole "on epers can beat other espers" thing is just silly when she was able to win as a normal human I thought they were going for a "you dont need to be special to win" thing with how she was winning even without her powers, but no
I will watch season 2, if there is a season 2, because the action is good enough to carry a mediocre story, as long as the story doesnt get worse

i watched the 1st episode of this and was like "wow this is amazing, holy damn" and then 3 episodes later i realized the exact same thing. the story wasnt compelling at all for me, and since i already have this same problem in the form of every other anime this season i dropped it
