this game is super fun and i posted something about it way way back

a lot of us already play, but if you don't and wanna learn - this is a really good place to start

also things to know that it doesn't cover

percentage of time pat will stab you in the back: 100%
number of times it sounds like amaz is high as balls but actually does exactly the right thing: all of them
mandatory thing to say when no1 dies at night: "docs gonna doc"
person you should -rep when you get the chance: dmbrandon

Learning how to play can be hard, but its worth it, its a fun game

One of the things that seems to cause people to dislike the game is all the terms that are used
So heres most of the terms you'll see:

Town
Is the name for 1 of the teams
Its the side that is "good"
It can be used as "hes town"

Maf
Is the name for another team
Its the side that is "bad"
It can be used as "hes maf"

Class or Role
The game has many different classes
Each class has a different role to play during the game, each class has an ability that only that class has
Such as the cop who can get innocents on town sided people or guilties on maf sided people
Or doctor that can choose 1 person to save from death

Blue
Is another name for the villager class
This class has no ability

D or d
D stands for day, and is followed by a number
So d1 would mean day 1, or the first day of the game
Above the chat tells you what day it is
Can be used as "what did he say on d2?"

N or n
N stands for night and is followed by a number
So n1 would mean night 1, or the first night of the game
The top of where the chat is has what night it is
Can be used as "who did you investigate during n1?"

FOS
Means finger of suspicion
Its the person who you or someone else suspects of being maf
It can be used as "whos your fos?" or "i fos him"

Claim
Means to claim what class you are
It can be used as "what did he claim?" or "who claims cop" or "i claim "..[class that you are]

Fake claim
Means to lie about what class you are
It can be used as "i claim "..[class that you arent]

Inno
Means that a cop has gotten an innocent on that person
Can be used as "I have an inno" or "the cop said i was inno"

Out
Means that someone is trying to find out someone elses class by fishing for information, by fake claiming, or by spreading misinformation
Maf will do this to find who they want to kill
Town may do this by mistake while trying to find maf
You could even out yourself to maf
Cop may help maf by outing the people he has innocents on, just by saying their names
Cop shouldnt out innos when maf has a godfather, a framer, or a lawyer

CC
Means to counter claim
Its used when some claims something that you are, or that you find inconvenient
Like when your maf, and the cop claims, thats inconvenient, so you cc the cop
Or when your town and someone claims your class (and theres only 1 of your class) you cc them since you know they are maf and need to make sure everyone else knows
Choosing when you should cc is important to
Some guidelines are dont cc someone that claims to be doc or an important class (they are probably maf trying to out you), dont cc cop when the doc or bg is dead
Basically dont cc when you dont have to

Clear
Means that someone has proven that they are sided with town
Someone can be considered clear when they have no cc's
It can be used as "hes clear" or "claim to the clear"

fmpov
Means From My Point of View
It can be used as "fmpov your not clear"
Normally its only used in specific situations

Autowin
Means that no matter what happens that side will win
Sometimes the game will come to a point where 1 side cant win, due to mistakes made on that side, or pro play from the other side
Can be used as "it doesnt matter, its autowin"

ML or mislynch
Means Miss Lynch
When theres significantly more town people then maf you have a number of miss-lynches you can use while trying to find the maf
Basically lynching the towns people by mistake in an attempt to find maf
Can be used as "we have a mislynch" or "lets use our ml today on him"

NL
Means No Lynch
Used when someone doesnt what to lynch anyone
Can be used as "NL today" or "we should NL"

RL
Means random lynch
Normally used on d1 as a mislynch, when theres nothing to go on
Can be used as "are we RLing" or "lets just RL someone"

PL
Means Policy Lynch
Same as RL but instead of picking someone at random people pick the person that doesnt have an avatar
They pick that person because they think that person is new since they havent changed thier profile
Can be used as "lets PL him to use our mislynch"

Mylo
Means mislynch and lose
Used when theres no room for error, and that if you lynch town you will lose
Can be used as "its mylo" or "we should NL, its mylo"

Lylo
Means lynch or lose
Like mylo, its used when theres no room for error
But its worse then that because town needs to lynch maf or they will lose
Usually Lylo will happen when theres 1 more town then there are maf, so if theres 3 town sided people and 2 maf its lylo for town because maf will kill a town and it will be 2 to 2 and maf wins
Can be used as "we cant NL its lylo" or "god damnit, now its lylo"

Massclaim
Means that everyone should claim publicly
This should only happen in lylo since it can save the game
Massclaiming before lylo can cause maf to win pretty easily

Bandwagon
Means that people are all voting to lynch someone because someone else did without any evidence or reasoning
It can be used as "i just jumped on the bandwagon" or "dont just bandwagon like this, its mylo"

Maf buddy
As maf this is your teammate(s)
As town this will be used to say that someone is someone elses teammate on the maf side
Can be used as "they are maf buddies" or "my maf buddy will win this"

Bus
Means to out someone in an attempt to clear another person
Usually maf will do this
The most common way a bus happens is maf will claim cop, he will claim he has a guilty on his maf buddy, town will lynch his maf buddy and town will see the maf as cop
He throws his teammate under the bus to help himself, which is where the name comes from
Town can do this as well, for different reasons, but it happens less and is only done in specific situations
Can be used as "i think this is a bus" or "he just bussed him"

Scum
Another word for maf
Can be used in place of maf

Scumtell or scummy
Means that maf has said something that sounds maf
Can be used as "thats scummy" or "that was a scumtell"
Can be used by maf to make someone from town seem maf if town says something that sounds maf, as in maf saying: "thats scummy"

Scumhunt
Means that someone is hunting for maf, looking or fishing for scumtells
Scumhunting is required in mylo or lylo situations
Can be used as "hes scumhunting"

Towntell
Means the opposite of scumtell
When a town does something that seems like they are sided with the town
Can be used by maf to make themselves seen like town

Hammer
Means the final vote in any meeting
The person that hammers is the last person to vote
In mafia meetings the person that hammers is the one that suffers the effects from a bodyguard, or any effect like that, where it can only effect a single person
Can be used as "ill hammer" or "dont let maf have the hammer"

Lurking or lurk
Means the same thing it means normally
People will consider lurking as scummy and will use any mislynch on them

well like 1/2 of the stuff pat posted is in that tutorial

i should probably clarify that the tutorial is equally geared at epic mafia as it is at real life games of mafia (like around a campfire with a bunch of friends)
so in real life the "moderator" is someone who isn't playing but keeps track of who's who.
in epic mafia, its the server itself and is as impartial as possible

you should still read pat's list though, some of the more important specifics are in it

if someone says something that pat didn't cover check this

there are also a bunch of strategies listed under there
like hypo cop
one of the cleverest and most useless strategies ever

I didnt read everything in the link you posted, i didnt realized it covered that much

I didnt put hypno cop cause its never used anymore, ive seen it once and it was useless there
I didnt put some other stuff cause it seemed too complicated for someone starting out, also the post was already too long, in fact i cut myself short

Heres some other stuff i wrote but trashed (dont bother to read it, just see how long it is) for length and the fact that it would be impossible to cover everything i wanted to, even with the 3 classes i had started writing for (i intended to do it for all of the common ones, about 15 or so):

You noticed i just stopped mid sentence there, its because there was no 1 good way to do it, theres no one way to do anything
And thats when i realized i wouldnt be able to write something like that for all of them and cover every situation without using a series of some sort of pseudo code nested if statements, and doing that would be like planning out a program that could play epic maf, which would be like trying to make an AI capable of making situational decisions and using judgement like a human can

I still want to add more to what ive said, to help people play, but i cant think of how since theres really no right way to do anything or really any limits on what you can or cant do
I might try to write something more general when it comes to strategies

I guess the wiki does a good job, but it over complicates some things, like lylo and mylo for example
When i was new i didnt understand the difference between them (for awhile i thought they were interchangeable) and went to the wiki to find out and still didnt get the difference, maybe it was just me though

i was just using hypo as an example of a strategy not of something that should get its own post haha

why not just make a thread for each role/how to play thing you come up with?

this was only ever meant to be the basics of the game

i still mix up mylo and lylo
i think its that its misslynch AND lose and lynch OR lose that gets me mixed up

cop is the trickiest to explain because there are so many exceptions to the usual cases that you said

The "and" and "or" was what got me to

Yeah I remember mylo and lylo being one of the main reasons I was lynched a noob. For some reason idiots associate not knowing what lylo or mylo is with being mafia because they don't pay attention. Which in reality makes absolutely no sense because if I was mafia I probably would have asked or heard my teammates in the night tell me or I would have asked.

I was blue, not really paying attention at first

It got to the point where we had to lynch a maf or lose, we knew who to lynch (more or less)
aandres and man were guilty, we were voting man, man was voting someone else
Since andres was about to lose he didnt vote and time ran down past the afk timer but no one had kicked

I suggested we just change votes to the one that wasnt voting and then kick (since he was guilty anyway i didnt think it would matter), but as soon as i did andres voted someone to make it a tie and then kicked to force nl

We should have lost there since it was 2 maf vs 3 town and maf would just need to kill one of us, so that was a pretty big fail on my part
In my defense i didnt realize you could pull such a dick move like that with the time (i said that during the game)
But it gets worse

Luckly the doc saved so we had another chance
After the stunt they pulled the previous day it was obvious who the maf were
We voted man again but at the afk timer sins voted no one for some fail reason, the maf made it tie again and this time they knew who the doc was so we lost
